“The Pine Tree with a Mother’s Embrace”
(어머니 품 같은 소나무 이야기 · Eomeoni Pum Gateun Sonamu Iyagi)

🕰️ 1. The Story

Long ago, deep in the mountains of Korea, there stood an ancient pine tree unlike any other. Its branches stretched wide like welcoming arms, and its evergreen needles remained vibrant through every season.

Travelers called it “The Mother’s Pine.”

No one remembered who had planted it, yet everyone who rested beneath its shade spoke of the same feeling.

“It feels... like coming home.”

At the foot of the mountain lived a widowed mother named Yeon-sun and her only son, Ji-ho. Though life was difficult, Yeon-sun always encouraged her son with a gentle smile.

“A tree becomes strong because it endures every season,” she would say.
“So will you.”

When Ji-ho came of age, he left the village to seek work in a distant city.

Before he departed, his mother walked with him to the great pine tree.

She placed her hand upon its rough bark.

“Whenever you feel lonely,” she whispered,
“remember this tree.
It will remind you that my heart is always with you.”

Years passed.

Ji-ho worked hard, but the world was often unkind.

Whenever hardship overwhelmed him, he dreamed of the mountain pine.

Its branches swayed gently, and he always heard his mother's voice carried by the wind.

One winter, news finally reached him that his mother had passed away peacefully.

Heartbroken, Ji-ho hurried back to his village.

When he reached the mountain, he found the old pine standing exactly as he remembered.

Snow rested quietly upon its branches.

Unable to hold back his tears, Ji-ho embraced the great trunk.

At that very moment, a warm breeze moved through the frozen forest.

The pine's branches bent softly around him, as though wrapping him in a mother's embrace.

Ji-ho closed his eyes.

For an instant, he could almost hear Yeon-sun's gentle voice.

“My child...
Love never leaves.
It simply changes the way it stays beside you.”

The wind became still.

A single pine cone fell into Ji-ho's hands.

He planted its seeds beside the old tree.

Years later, young pine trees surrounded the ancient giant.

Children played beneath their shade.

Travelers rested there before continuing their journeys.

The villagers smiled whenever they passed.

“A mother's love,” they would say,
“is like a pine tree.
It shelters us through every season.”

Even today, some old pine trees in Korea are said to carry the warmth of those who loved without condition.

And whenever the mountain wind whispers through their branches, many believe it is simply a mother's blessing, quietly watching over her children.
